Nestled along the Florida Panhandle, six and a half hours from the theme parks in Orlando, Pensacola is a coastal gem known for two iconic features that continue to awe both visitors and locals alike: its sugar-white sandy beaches and the thrilling aerial displays of the Blue Angels.

We recently visited the area and found that the beaches of Pensacola are some of the most pristine in the country. With soft, powdery sand and crystal-clear turquoise waters, it’s a haven for beachgoers, sunbathers, and anyone looking to relax by the Gulf of Mexico. When you’re strolling along Pensacola Beach, the water is inviting year-round and the natural beauty is unforgettable.

High above these scenic shores, the Blue Angels — the U.S. Navy’s elite flight demonstration squadron, streak through the skies in perfect formation. They hold two local airshows each July and November which draw spectators from across the globe. Based in Pensacola, they practice regularly over the area. The roar of their F/A-18 jets is as much a part of the city’s character as the sound of waves on the shore.

Pensacola is really so more than just a college and beach town. During our recent visit there, we were amazed by the charm of the small city, and we enjoyed the local dining scene as well. Whether you’re watching the Blue Angels carve the sky or sinking your toes into white sand, this Gulf Coast city truly offers a uniquely exhilarating escape.
