There are many choices for high school seniors as they think about their career paths after graduation. With advances in technology, the world of work is rapidly changing and the skills required to do the work is as well. Not everyone is ready to pursue four more years of school after high school. For those that seek an alternative to a college education, here are 3 high paying job opportunities that don’t require a college degree.
LPN
According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, Licensed Practical Nurses can expect to earn on average $23.21 per hour. LPN’s typically work in hospitals settings, long-term care facilities and outpatient facilities and are responsible for delivering care to residents and/or patients. They typically work under the direction of a Registered Nurse, or RN and can also be responsible for administering prescribed medications. Most LPN’s complete a year-long training program at a local college or trade school.
Aircraft Maintenance Technician
If as a kid you liked to tinker with machines and tools, becoming a Aircraft Maintenance Technician may be the perfect job for you. Just as the name implies, Aircraft Maintenance Techs inspect aircraft mechanical equipment to identify problems or defects and then adjust or make repairs to this equipment. The state of Florida has one of the highest levels of employment in this field in the nation. On average, Aircraft Maintenance Technicians can expect to earn $32/hour. The length of training for this field is just under two years.
CDL Driver
If you enjoy traveling, this may be the ideal job for you. CDL Drivers can earn a good living with only one month of training. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the median annual wage for light truck drivers was $38,280 in May 2021. This is a fast-growing occupation that is in-demand. In addition, for those with a conviction or who are re-entering the workforce after incarceration, this occupation is background friendly.
This list is by no means finite. However, for those that are considering non-traditional career paths, it’s worth it to consider at least one. After all, the sky is the limit.
